Is Duke Built to Make a 2011 Final Four Run?

Duke Basketball

Mike Krzyzewski is one of the best coaches in the history of sports, but look at some of his recent statistics:

  • The Blue Devils haven't made it to the Final Four since 2004.
  • Last year's Sweet Sixteen appearance was the school's first since 2006.
  • Duke is 2-7 against UNC in the past nine games.

This year's team lacks depth in the backcourt and will go as far as their young forwards will take them. If the Plumlee brothers can live up to their hype, this team will be very good down low. The reason that you shouldn't be optimistic about this is the fact that the Blue Devils haven't had a dominant forward/center since Carlos Boozer in 2002. Shelden Williams was a very good college player, but his Duke teams always came up short in the NCAA Tournament. For those Duke fans that want good news, Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel thinks the Blue Devils can make the Final Four in 2011 if they get highly-touted forward Harrison Barnes. Barnes must be a fan of Halloween as he will make his decision on Friday the 13th.
