College Football: Weekend Overreactions

Crazy weekend. Unfortunately, most of the media is stuck on Meyer/ Kiffin instead of the actual football that played on the fields. Are we going to talk UT/ Florida until next September?

It was a great effort by the Vols that they can build on moving forward. So move forward ESPN and Fox. Here’s what else went down this weekend:

  • Washington shocked the world (except Stewart Mandell and Chip Kain). There aren’t NEARLY enough people talking about Jake Locker. The guy redeemed himself for the excessive celebration penalty that coast his team the game with BYU in 2008 (Washington went winless last year, if you hadn’t heard). We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the Trojans will lose twice this year.
  • Auburn keeps beating people while racking up 400+ yards of offense. How is this even the same team as last year? Enjoy Gus Malzhan while he lasts Plainsmen. Should Jay Jacobs hold a “tell me how my @$$ tastes” presser next week ripping the Auburn fans that heckled him at the airport?
  • Georgia has decided that defense is optional. Dawgs DC Willie Martinez is taking a beating in the press. We get the feeling that Georgia is this year’s LSU. They’re going to have to score 40 to beat anyone this year.
  • Cincinnati keeps winning. That was a very nice win that the Bearcats had in Corvallis. Our question is does Brian Kelly’s squad get left out of the BCS title game if Texas or Florida have one loss and the Bearcats are undefeated?
  • Miami should be in the top 5. We’d bet the farm on a pick’em between the Canes and fourth ranked Ole Miss at a neutral field. Back to back games with Va Tech and Oklahoma may be too much for any team to handle, though.
  • No one really looks that great. This is the kind of year that really screams for a playoff.
