College Football: Weekend Overreactions

  • It’s time for officials to back off. For the second time in three weeks SEC officials have made a bad call that cost someone a football game. The two penalties on Florida’s last touchdown drive were the difference in the game, and quite possibly Florida’s BCS title hopes. Today’s players are so big and fast that it’s easy to miss any call at any time. That said, if an official isn’t sure about a call and it can change the outcome of a game, they shouldn’t throw the flag. Err on the side of caution.

  • The SEC and Big 12 are really getting too much credit. Take a look at the schedules of Bama, Florida, and Texas. Save the Tide’s win over VT, which other team on those schedules really scares you? The top 2 teams in the SEC are buzz saws, but the rest of the league is VERY pedestrian. The same look at the current state of the Big 12 will leave you feeling the same way.

  • Mark Ingram is the best football player in the country. In two seasons, we’ve never seen the guy go down at first contact. In a year that really seems devoid of a true “most outstanding player in college football” he’d get our Heisman vote.

  • Would you really take anyone over USC on a neutral field? With Matt Barkley coming into his own the Trojans look like the most complete team in the nation. How fitting would it be for Meyer and Carroll, the two best coaches of the decade, to meet for the final BCS title of the decade?

  • We wouldn’t draft any QB from this class. Bradford’s injury scares us. McCoy rarely takes snaps under center and Tebow won’t stay in the pocket. We hope that Ryan Mallet and Jimmy Clausen stay for the extra year of seasoning. Either would be a project at this point.
