College Football: Weekend Overreactions

  • Which 7-5 SEC team deserves the ACC title? Okay so maybe Georgia and South Carolina’s wins were a product of rivalry week. It’s the way that both of these teams ran through their opponents that impressed us. Any SEC fan will tell you that you have to be pretty soft up front to let South Carolina’s OL push you around for more than 4 yards per carry. Georgia’s underachieving line was able to spring not one, but two RB’s for over a 100 yards rushing. They’re called DT’s ACC. You may want to invest in a few.
  • My name is Will West and Toby Gerhart is the freaking truth part II. Gerhart has ran away with the nation’s rushing title and has now found pay dirt 26 times in one of the two toughest conferences in the land. Oh, by the way, did we mention that he did it behind Stanford’s OL? He won’t win the Heisman, and that’s an outrage.
  • Mark Ingram should have lost the Heisman on Saturday, but will still get a ticket to New York. Ingram averaged 1.9 ypc. against an Auburn front seven with only one scholarship LB in uniform. That should remove him from all conversation as this season’s most outstanding player.
  • If you want all heck to break loose in the BCS, you have to pull for Nebraska on Saturday. What happens if Texas falls in the Big 12 title game? Myopic SEC fans will want an SEC championship rematch. Cincy will have the biggest claim to a title shot with a win over Pitt, but TCU is probably the better team. Those of us hoping for a playoff should want to see TCU in the title game. Cincy will be an undefeated BCS conference team without a win, while a non-BCS school would get a shot over them. It would be anarchy…anarchy I tell you. Oh, and by the way, TCU would beat either Bama or Florida on a neutral field.
  • Someone would do well by hiring Rick Stockstill. Who, you ask. Rick Stockstill, head football coach at MTSU. The Blue Raiders are going bowling for just the second time in the program’s history after a 9-win campaign this year. Stockstill wisely removed himself for consideration for the Memphis opening. If Kevin Sumlin leaves Houston or another mid-major loses their coach, Stockstill would be a major “get” for that university.
