I woke up this morning convinced that Alabama running back Mark Ingram is a lock to be the first Alabama Crimson Tide player to win the Heisman Trophy. After doing some research this morning, I am not as sure about Ingram. I mentioned earlier this week that I know three Knoxville voters that are picking Tim Tebow and this could hurt Ingram. The thing that shocked me today is the amount of love that Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh is getting from voters. I would absolutely love to see Suh win the Heisman Trophy, but I thought there would be too much love nationally for Tebow and Colt McCoy. Six out of the 10 Sports Illustrated voters all went with Suh. The only thing more shocking than this is the fact that Andy Staples voted Rolando McClain second on his list.
The great website that is StiffArmTrophy.com projects Ingram as the winner, followed by Toby Gerhart, Suh, McCoy and Tebow. The website also predicts that Suh will get the most first place votes. The website is pretty accurate and lists the votes of all the voters that have announced their pick. The only problem here is that they only know of 33.8 % of the ballots, so anything can happen after this. After doing research this morning, I think Ingram will still win the Heisman, with Suh finishing second. Anybody that voted for Tebow should write an apology to Suh and Gerhart as those are the two most dominant players in the country. Here’s hoping I am wrong and Suh ends up winning the Heisman.
