The Atlanta Braves could enter next season with six starters and there is talk that the Braves might trade one of the starters for an outfielder. The Braves are in desperate need of some power in the outfield, but the problem is that nobody will want to absorb Derrick Lowe's ridiculous contract or take a chance on Kenshin Kawakami. The AJC's Mark Bradley raises this question: Now that it looks like the Braves will re-sign Tim Hudson, should the Braves move Hanson to closer? Bradley mentions that the Boston Red Sox made a smart decision when they moved Jonathan Papelbon from starter to closer.
The Red Sox did make a smart decision with Papelbon, but this is not the time to move Hanson. Hanson had a very strong rookie season and he is the future of the Braves. Hanson can have a similar start to his career that Tom Glavine and John Smoltz had last decade. The Braves could make the playoffs if they promote Jason Heyward and add a bat like Johnny Damon in left field.
