1) The Toronto Blue Jays made a mistake not lowering their asking price for Roy Halladay.
Jamey: Buy. The Jays made a huge mistake not lowering their demands. There is a reason why this franchise is mediocre every single year. If they were smart, they would have done this deal and the Rolen deal. They could have been loaded with prospects and still kept some of their veterans. They have to trade him in the offseason, but the asking price will not be as high.
Will: Buy. Horrible move by J.P. Riccardi. One of the biggest selling points for Doc was that a team would have him for this year and next. Now Halladay’s nothing more than a great player with an expiring contract. GM’s don’t pay market value for a rental and unless a team can work out an extension ahead of time, the jays are going to get short changed. Bonehead move made by a team that, economically, can’t afford to make mistakes.
2) The Phillies helped themselves more than any other team at the deadline.
Jamey: Buy. This is a close one for me. The St. Louis Cardinals are very tempting here because Matt Holliday is batting .589 on the season. If he stays hot, the Cardinals could be very dangerous come October. You look at the complete game Cliff Lee pitched last night and you see that the Phillies are dangerous now. He had no run support in Cleveland and now he has the best run support in baseball. By the way, if Pedro Martinez has anything left, give the Phillies the World Series trophy right now.
Will: Sell. The Cards made more strides, but had much farther to go than did the Phills. Teams were on the verge making sure that Pujols never saw a strike again. Holliday and DeRosa have kept that from happening. The Phills still didn’t address their bullpen. It may not matter with that line-up.
3)The Detroit Tigers now have the best rotation in the AL.
Jamey: Buy. Here is a scary thought: The Detroit Tigers could still have Jair Jurrjens on this rotation. Even, without him, they have Justin Verlander, Edwin Jackson, Jarrod Washburn and Rick Porcello. This is the one team in the American League that nobody is talking about, but should be. I don't like their offense, but this rotation could carry them far in the playoffs.
Will: Buy. Ditto.
4)Fedor v. Lesnar will happen in 2009.
Jamey: Buy. I am not as confident about this after hearing Dana White's press conference but this has to happen this year. There are not many opponents for UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar right now and this fight would be maybe the biggest pay-per-view in the history of the UFC.
Will: Sell. Dana White underpays his talent. Fedor seems motivated to keep that from happening. White needs this more than Fedor, because Lesnar’s in danger of becoming a heavyweight champ that isn’t respected because of the lack of competiotion around him(Lenox Lewis). Lesnar has to have this fight. Dana White’s ego will mess it up.
5)Jose Canseco’s right and there is a steroid user in the HOF.
Jamey: Buy. At this point, we have to believe almost anything Canseco says when it comes to steroids. If you read his first book, he was right on many of the players he named. It is interesting to think of the player that he could be talking about. At first, I thought it was Ricky Henderson but Canseco said he has no knowledge of Henderson using PEDs. I would be shocked if he was talking about Tony Gwynn or Cal Ripken Jr. In today's game, you never know.
Will: Buy. I’d be floored if there weren’t more than one.
