Today is a sad day for basketball fans everywhere. Former Los Angeles Lakers' Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is being treated for a rare form of leukemia. The NBA's all-time leading scoring says his prognosis is encouraging and he told the Associated Press that he was diagnosed last December with chronic myeloid leukemia. For some reason, this NBA legend gave me the time of the day for an interview earlier this year and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. At a time when some coaches and athletes struggle to give an entertaining interview, Abdul-Jabbar was a very intelligent, entertaining interview.
The inventor of the skyhook might say something that you disagree with, but you can't fault the guy for standing up for what he believes in. We here plan on keeping Abdul-Jabbar in our thoughts and prayers and hope nothing but the best for the man that once trained with Bruce Lee. How could you not love a guy that starred in "Airplane!" and "Slam Dunk Ernest"?
