I Have a Fever and the Only Prescription is More NFL Draft

NFL Draft

I am starting to think NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reads our blog. A day after I rip his decision to suspend former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, Goodell shows why he will never be the moron that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig is every year.  The NFL Draft will be spread over three days in 2010, running Thursday, April 22, through Saturday, April 24. Why am I so excited about this? It is not because of the annoying bickering between Todd McShay and Mel Kiper, Jr.  I am one of those obsessed NFL fans that treats the NFL Draft as Christmas in April. From the overhyped first overall pick to Mr. Irrelevant, I try to watch every pick. Just like on Christmas Day, there is the chance that you (or your team) will receive a great new gift. We all have had that crazy relative that does the opposite and buys you a Dixie Chicks c.d. (true story) or something that you know you will throw away right when you part ways.  Detroit Lions fans lived through the football equivalent of this – The Matt Millen era. Honestly, did he not draft a receiver every year in the first round for a decade?

False hope is always the thing in the offseason that keeps fans from jumping off a bridge. Think how the NFL Draft has given hope to fans in Detroit that just got done recovering from a winless season. The NFL Draft could be moved to a random Tuesday night and you know you would still watch every minute of it.
