The New England Patriots are cutting all the dead-weight they can before today's trading deadline and there are rumors that the Patriots might make a run at San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman. Pro Football Talk reported that St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson could be another possibility. Merriman is nowhere near as dominant as he was before his knee injury, but he would be a perfect addition to the Patriots' defense.
