Schagren Says: This is not Girardi’s Last Jersey Switch

Joe Girardi

Schagren Says: is a collection of random thoughts and predictions from the most random person in Knoxville, TN.

Girardi will wear 29 at some point in his career: Why does this prediction matter? New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi picked the number 27, because he wanted to lead the Yankees to their 27th World Series win. Girardi accomplished that this week and is now switching to number 28 for the same reason. Considering the Yankees will probably sign Matt Holliday and add a pitcher in the offseason, expect the Yankees to win their 28th World Series sometime in the next two years. Girardi will win at least two World Series before his time with the Yankees ends. Would you be shocked if he ever wears number 30?

Miles deserves immunity if he beats Alabama: Even though he has won a national championship at LSU, critics love to claim that Miles is lucky and he is not considered one of the best coaches in the nation. Miles can quiet his critics with a big conference win over No. 3 Alabama on Saturday. While it is going to be hard to win at Tuscaloosa, Tennessee’s defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin proved that Alabama’s offense can be contained. Keep in mind that the Tigers still have a good chance of playing for the BCS Championship, if they win out.

Duke has a better chance of beating North Carolina in football than basketball: Remember when the Blue Devils actually beat the Tar Heels in basketball? Me neither. I told you back in August that Duke will make a bowl game and now they are one win away from being bowl eligible. Their remaining schedule is North Carolina in Chapel Hill, No. 10 Georgia Tech at home, at No. 17 Miami and Wake Forest at home. How good is David Cutcliffe at coaching quarterbacks? The Blue Devils leads the ACC in passing and are ranked sixth nationally.

The Broncos will lose their second straight game on Sunday: There is always a team that starts strong and fades down the stretch in the NFL. The Denver Broncos started their season 6-0 and lost last week 30-7 to the Baltimore Ravens. Because of their easy remaining schedule, the Broncos will still wind up with at least 11 wins. They will lose another game on Sunday as they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football. The Steelers have won four games in a row and handed the Minnesota Vikings their first loss of the season. Expect the pundits to jump off the Broncos’ bandwagon after the Broncos lose their second straight game.
