Bowden is retiring: ESPN's Mark Schlabach is reporting that legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement on Tuesday. This is probably not his first choice, but it is the best decision. Former Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward said on ESPN on Saturday that Bowden deserves to turn around the program like Joe Paterno did at Penn State. The problem is that there are no signs of a quick turnaround in Tallahassee and Jimbo Fisher deserves a shot. The Seminoles would have owed Fisher $5 million if he wasn't the coach by 2011. It is a shame that young college football fans wil remember Bowden for recent struggles and might not remember his dominant reign that he had last decade.
Tennessee will get a bowl invite on Tuesday: WATE in Knoxville is reporting that the Vols could get an invite on Tuesday from the Outback Bowl. The Vols are expected to go to the Cotton Bowl or the Outback Bowl and an Outback Bowl offical told WATE that the Vols are an attractive team and the bowl wants a team that has players and fans that are excited to play in the bowl. The Vols are expected to play Wisconsin (yawn) or an improving Northwestern team in the Outback Bowl.
